Climbing unroped on an adjacent climb, R.L. stopped to make this photo (and lots of others) of Karen leading a client. The threatening sky, shadows from the tree behind, and the black rock in the foreground combine to encircle Karen and give this image an intensity that contrasts with her casual and relaxed stance. Visual tension can provide the energy that is sometimes difficult to find on low angle rock.
